The Caregiver Program is Quickly Approaching it’s End – What Are Your Options?

As many of you know, caregivers around Canada were shocked when the Canadian government announced that the caregiver program will be ending. This concerns Caregivers who are either in Canada or have applied or thought about applying to come to Canada under this program, in one of these two streams:
- Caring for Children
- Caring for people with High Medical Needs
(This might be yourself, anyone you know, a family member or a relative)
Up until November 29, 2019, you will have the opportunity to apply for permanent residence in Canada, if by that date you have fulfilled the eligibility requirements of those two programs.
What are those eligibility requirements? Good question
Work Experience:
You need to be able to demonstrate that you have completed 24 months of full-time work experience in Canada before you apply. This includes National Occupational Classifications (NOC) groups 3012, 3233, 3413, 4411 & 4412.
Language Ability
You need to demonstrate a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for all categories, and CLB 7 if you are a registered nurse.
Education
You need to demonstrate a Canadian post-secondary degree or equivalent
Admissibility
In addition to the above, your criminal background check and your accompanying family members must NOT reveal any involvement in criminal activity.
Depending on your current situation, you need to start seriously considering your options, calculate your accumulated experience and BE READY.
The Big Question:
With Fall quickly approaching us, the deadline is now coming to the one-year countdown. We know that either you or a relative or friend of yours will be needing answers. Don’t be unprepared! There are a few big questions many have regarding this matter:
- When you have completed the 24 months of caregiving experience, do you have all the documents for your application to be accepted and not returned by the IRCC after the program closes?
- What if you will not be meeting any of the requirements above by 29 November 2019?
- Are there any steps you can take to remain in Canada?
