Become a Canadian Citizen

To be eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship, there are many requirements that you need to fulfill. As of October 2017, you need to have fulfilled the following:

  • Have completed a minimum of 1095 days of physical residence in Canada within the last 5 years prior to submitting your application for Canadian citizenship
  • Have duly filed your taxes for the preceding 3 tax years
  • Demonstrate a certain level of English or French proficiency if you are between the ages of 18 and 55
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge of Canadian history, political system and overall local traditions, geography, etc.
  • Be a law-abiding resident with no criminal offences during your residency that preceded your application and maintain that status all through the application process.
